Chief Operating Officer (COO)


Our client, a mission-driven nonprofit startup focused on financial literacy and economic opportunity for young people, is seeking a strategic, execution-focused COO to help scale its core program and a new initiative currently in development.


This role leads finance, legal, risk, compliance, operations, and HR — working closely with the Executive Director to translate vision into systems, structure, and execution.


About Our Client

A nonprofit delivering a hands-on financial education model that combines real-world financial exposure with structured learning, funded through a philanthropic model where operating costs are covered separately from donor gifts. The organization has received notable industry recognition for its work in financial education and youth empowerment.


Reports to: Executive Director


Key Responsibilities

  • Own financial strategy: budgeting, forecasting, controls, and governance
  • Lead legal, regulatory, and compliance strategy; manage external counsel, auditors, and regulatory partners
  • Support compliant infrastructure design as new initiatives scale
  • Build systems and processes for a high-performing, distributed team
  • Oversee vendor management and key operational metrics
  • Oversee HR: hiring, onboarding, performance, and culture


Who You Are

  • 7+ years in operations, finance, or general management, ideally in an innovative nonprofit, startup, or fintech environment
  • Strong financial leadership: budgeting, forecasting, reporting
  • Experience with legal/compliance/regulatory environments (fintech, financial services, or nonprofit)
  • Builder-operator, strategic and hands-on
  • Data-driven, test-and-learn mindset
  • Strong communicator across stakeholders and functions
  • Mission-driven, motivated by expanding opportunity for young people


Bonus: Nonprofit + fintech experience; custodial account or advisory structures; early-stage startup experience; consumer financial products or payments


Compensation & Benefits

  • $170,000–$210,000
  • 100% health, dental, vision coverage

  • Remote, U.S.-based, occasional travel


Location: Full-time, remote, U.S.-based only. No visa sponsorship.
